Reagan Pays Tribute To Cesar

It’s official. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger signed a bill making it California state law honoring former governor and President Ronald Reagan on his birthday, Feb. 6. Schwarzenneger signed a second bill Monday establishing a state commission to plan celebrations for the 100th anniversary of Reagan’s birth in 1911.

Reagan joins a list of California notables with special commemorative days that include gay rights activist Harvey Milk and environmentalist John Muir.

Despite the popular former Republican’s accomplishments, he still plays second fiddle to farm labor leader Cesar Chavez whose birthday is the only one on the list who is honored additionally with a state holiday.

Furthermore, Reagan was forced to share the limelight Monday with Ed Roberts, a quadriplegic who became the first severely handicapped student admitted to UC Berkeley and went on to become an activist for the disabled. Roberts’ Day is Jan. 23.

Little wonder Reagan short-memory disciples call Schwarzenneger a RINO, Republican in name only.
